SOUNDING OFF:No mandate to build center in park

Given the lack of information the voters had about the proposed senior center in Central Park, I would not interpret the razor-thin victory of Measure T as any kind of mandate to build a senior center in the park. Only 50.8% of the voters approved Measure T, and opposition was growing before the vote.

The proposed senior center in Central Park has turned into a very divisive issue in Huntington Beach. The only way to bring this community together again is to more thoroughly explore the options available and locate the senior center elsewhere. This will have to be done anyway as part of the Environmental Impact Report for any project in Central Park.

Meanwhile, the Save Central Park group should continue to grow and build up community support.

This has happened in the past with the Bolsa Chica groups, and I fully expect the Save Central Park group to follow in this time-honored tradition.
