CORONA DEL MAR — The top-seeded Sea Kings improved to 22-0 with a CIF Southern Section Division I triumph Tuesday on the Sea Kings’ courts.

Freshman Melissa Matsuoka and sophomore Lindsay Zotovich won 18 of 19 games at No. 2 doubles to stand out for Coach Brian Ricker’s squad, which eliminated the Wolverines (13-7) and advanced to Thursday’s semifinals.

Hayley and Miranda Young, as well as the CdM doubles team of Michelle Atkins and Karen Ishii recorded two wins each.

Jill Damion, Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Hailey Hogan swept in singles.

CdM will face Calabasas at a site to be determined by coin flip today.

Calabasas defeated Peninsula on games, 71-63, after a 9-9 tie.

The Sea Kings won at Peninsula, 11-7, earlier this season. It was the only match the Sea Kings have played that was not decided until the third of three rounds.

Doubles -- H. Young-M. Young (CdM) def. Sathier-Kolin, 6-0, (sub) Kaiden-Lee (CdM) def. Richman-Moy, 6-2; H. Young-M. Young (CdM) def. Hung-Horn, 6-2; Matsuoka-Zotovich (CdM) won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0; Atkins-McKitterick (CdM) won, 6-2; (sub) Atkins-Ishi (CdM) won, 6-3, 6-1.

Newport Harbor 3

NEWPORT BEACH — Sailors junior Alex McIntosh posted two wins against the Dons (17-3), the No. 2 seed, Tuesday at Newport Harbor.

Sailors sophomore singles player Ariana Cernius collected the other win for Newport (13-5).

“These girls ended the season strong,” Newport Coach Fletcher Olson said. “They played well again, but they played a great team.”

McIntosh will continue, competing in the CIF individual tournament, which begins Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. The Sailors senior duo of Chrissy Schwartz and Sasha Dunlap, who are 23-3, will play in doubles.

McIntosh, as well as Schwartz and Dunlap reached the semifinals of the Sunset League finals and earned first-team all-league honors.

Emily Gelbaum, Natalie Small and Brittany Sowers were on the second team.
