RIVERSIDE — The Pirates came from behind twice, denying an upset bid with a 22-30, 30-27, 25-30, 30-22, 15-12 Orange Empire Conference win on Wednesday.
Sophomore Kiwi Winkler had 37 kills to lead OCC (18-1, 11-1 in conference), and Jacqi Reed added 30. Ashlee Moon had 36 digs, and Chelsea Spadaro added 67 assists for the Pirates against the Tigers (10-7, 6-6).

Pacific Invitational
STOCKTON — UC Irvine freshman John Chin’s third-place finish helped the Anteaters to fourth at the 12-team Pacific Invitational Wednesday at the Brookside Country Club.
The Anteaters finished with a 2-over-par 290 Wednesday with Chin shooting a 1-under 71 for a three-round total of 10-under 206. UCI finished at 9-under.

LA JOLLA — UC Irvine junior Colin Mello’s team-high three goals were not enough as the No. 11 Anteaters lost in a nonconference game Tuesday.
Mello’s three goals gave him 75 on the season for UC Irvine (9-16), which plays at No. 4 Stanford in a Mountain Sports Federation game Saturday at noon.

IRVINE — Juniors guard Annie Mai and forward Stephanie Duda scored 11 points each in the Anteaters’ exhibition loss Wednesday.
Angie Ned had nine points and Naomi Halman added seven points and seven rebounds for UCI, which opens the regular season at home Monday at 7 p.m. against Eastern Washington.
