Orange Coast 84, Palomar 51

SAN MARCOS — Courtney Ford’s 28 points led the Pirates to an 84-51 victory in their season opener Tuesday.

Orange Coast led only 31-30 at halftime before outscoring Palomar 53-21 in the second half.

The Pirates next face Solano Friday at Mount San Antonia College at 3.

COSTA MESA — Allie Nelson’s goal in the 19th minute proved to be the decisive one as the Pirates went on to take the Orange Empire Conference match Tuesday.

Stacey Shoop added a goal in the 57th minute assisted by Nelson. Nelson scored on a Nicole Huff assist. Katie Johnson made eight saves for the Pirates (12-7-1, 9-5-1 in conference).

Orange Coast College’s season finale is Friday at Golden West.

SANTA ANA — The Orange Empire Conference loss Tuesday dropped the Pirates to 8-7-6, 4-4-5 in conference. Orange Coast’s final match is Friday at home against Fullerton.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Concordia def. Vanguard

IRVINE — Michal Shortridge led the Lions with 10 kills in the 30-21, 30-22, 30-20 Golden State Athletic Conference loss to No. 4 Concordia Tuesday.

Breeann Peterson had 31 assists for the Lions.

Vanguard dropped to 14-13, 7-12 in conference.

MEN’S GOLF

Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON — UC Irvine freshman John Chin finished with a four-under-par 68 in the second round of the Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Club Tuesday for a three-way tie for the individual lead.

The Anteaters tied the best team score of the day with a 9-under 279 for a two-day total of 11-under 565 and fourth place with a final round of 18 holes scheduled for today.

Chin has a two-day total of 9-under 135.

Brian Edick and Sean Shahi are tied for 18th at 143.
