Newport Harbor 4, Santa Ana 0

SANTA ANA — The Sailors clinched the Sunset League title with the road win in Thursday’s regular-season finale.

Jackie Sanchez, Rachel Foster, Samantha Hill and Kyleigh Harrison scored goals for Newport Harbor (19-3-3, 9-1 in league). Robin Ibbetson and Sanchez had assists.

Jessica Pizarek had eight saves for Newport and Coach Devon Kelly said defensive back Lauren Nordstrom made a heady play to save a goal.

The Sailors will have a first-round Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions game on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. at Harper Community Center.

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Laguna Beach 22, Costa Mesa 35

COSTA MESA — Mustangs senior Emily Cotton won the race in 20 minutes, 36 seconds, but the visiting Breakers won the overall Orange Coast League meet Thursday at Fairview Park.

Wendi Way finished sixth in 21:59 for Costa Mesa (1-2 in league) on the three-mile course. Courtney Green (22:07) was seventh, Cheyenne Lopez (22:52) finished 10th and Brittany Way (23:40 was 11th. Emily Bowman placed 13th in 25:09, and Amanda Monette was 14th in 27:09.

Estancia 15, Calvary Chapel 47

COSTA MESA — The Eagles dominated the Orange Coast League meet, taking the top six spots Thursday at Fairview Park’s three-mile course.

Sophomore Alexa Aguilar was first with a time of 19 minutes, 34 seconds, followed closely by Sydney Barloon at 19:35. Juniors Eunice Rodriguez and Paula Negrete tied for third in 20:10, followed by sophomore Sindey Ramirez (20:36) and junior Karina Rios (20:43).

Junior Magali Onofre finished eighth (21:38) for the Eachles (3-0 in league).

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Laguna Beach 21, Costa Mesa 37 COSTA MESA — Senior Mitch Friedmann’s third-place finish in 16:56 led Costa Mesa Thursday at Fairview Park in its final Orange Coast League meet.

John Zapata was fourth for the Mustangs (1-2) in 17:30. Jason Rosello was ninth in 18:42, followed by Drake Burnette (18:46) in 10th. Oscar Diaz finished 11th in 19:11, James Stucker (19:12) was 12th and John Sudbeck (19:48) placed 14th.

Estancia 15, Calvary Chapel 45

COSTA MESA — All six of the Eagles runners finished in the top six as Estancia High cruised to the Orange Coast League victory Thursday at Fairview Park’s three-mile course.

Sophomore Fernando Orozco took first in 15 minutes, 59 seconds.

Sophomore Wes Barloon was second (16:35), Cesar Casillas was third (16:40), Adrian Robles was fourth (16:42), Damion Leon was fifth (16:45) and Andy Navarrette was sixth (17:05) for Estancia (2-1 in league).

Newport Harbor 8,

Sacred Heart Prep 5

ATHERTON — Brandon Parole had four goals and Colin McKibbin added three for the Sailors in a nonleague game in Northern California on Thursday.

Newport Harbor (16-4) begins the True West Memorial Cup Invitational today in San Jose.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Pacific Coast League finals

CHINO — Three Corona del Mar High golfers narrowly missed reaching the top three at the two-day Pacific Coast League finals at El Prado Thursday, in order to advance to the CIF Southern Section individual tournament.

Senior Courtney Wright came back from shooting an 83 Wednesday to notching a four-over-par 76 to finish one stroke out of third place. Senior Jessica Milner shot an 81 after a 79 on Wednesday to finish two strokes out, while sophomore Cierra Gaytan-Leach shot a 78 after an 83 for three strokes out.

Senior Jonna Kim shot an 85, up from an 89 a day earlier, to finish 16 strokes from advancing.

Despite not moving on in the individual format, the Sea Kings will play in the Southern Section divisional Tuesday at El Prado. Corona del Mar Coach Mike Starkweather has promised the team he will shave his mustache if the team wins a section title.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Esperanza 11, Newport Harbor 7

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Alex McIntosh swept three singles sets and the doubles team of seniors Chrissy Schwartz and Sasha Dunlap also swept, but the Sailors lost the Sunset League match Thursday at Newport Harbor High.

Newport Harbor (9-5, 5-4 in league) is ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division II.

Esperanza is ranked No. 6.

The Sailors have their regular-season finale Monday at Marina.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Irvine

IRVINE — The Sea Kings swept, 25-18, 25-19, 25-13, in a Pacific Coast League match Thursday at Irvine High.

Senior Kelly Christian had the all-around game for CdM (17-3 overall, 7-0 in league), with eight kills, nine assists, 14 digs and eight service aces.

Kasey Kipp had 16 kills and two blocks, Madison Smith had 10 assists and Ashley Pries added nine digs.

Amanda Nickel added two solo blocks for the Sea Kings, who are at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions today and Saturday.
