Cove Gallery to celebrate 33 years

Cove Gallery, at 1294-B S. Coast Highway, will celebrate its 33rd anniversary with a pair of receptions the weekend of Nov. 11.

The receptions, which will include all 15 of its artists, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 12.

‘Artistic Images’ at Esther Wells

“Artistic Images,” featuring works by Shirley Murray, will debut at Esther Wells Collection on Oct. 21. The show will conclude Nov. 12.

Murray has studied with Serisawa, Vincent Farrell, Milt Kobayashi and John Asaro. She works in an impressionist style featuring heavy brush strokes.

LAM’s OsCene 2006 opens Oct. 28

Laguna Art Museum’s celebration of contemporary art and culture, the OsCene 2006, will open with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m., Oct. 28.

The party for the biennial survey will feature a DJ, no-host bar and attendance by featured artists. Admission is free to members, $15 for non-members and $10 for non-member students with ID.

Peter Max to appear at Wentworth

Artist Peter Max will bring his latest retrospective to Wentworth Gallery, as well as making a personal appearance from 6 to 9 p.m., Nov. 10.

Max has painted portraits of world leaders, including the last six U.S. presidents, and been official artist for Grammy Award broadcasts, Olympic teams and Super Bowls.

The exhibit will feature more than 300 pieces of Max’s art, including new originals.

One-man sculpture show at Miranda

Sculptor Tuan is being featured in a one-man show at Miranda Galleries, 417 S. Coast Hwy.

Tuan has received the Gloria Medal from the National Sculpture Society New York, a medal designed by C. Paul Jennewein and bestowed upon an artist in Jennewein’s memory for a meritorious body of work as determined by the board of the Society.

He won the “Gold Medal Award for Sculpture” from the California Art Club in 2006, and his sculpture “Rendezvous” is in the permanent collection of the Pasadena Museum of Art. His work has been exhibited throughout Southern California, including the Bowers and the Pasadena art museums.

Tuan has completed the first 15-foot monument Vietnam War memorial for the city of Westminster, commemorating the partnership between American and Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. In commemoration of George W. Bush’s inauguration, the maquette of the Vietnam memorial and the sculpture “Triumph” are in the permanent art collection of the White House.
