California Challenge

SAN DIEGO — Newport Harbor High defeated Marymount in the quarterfinals of the tournament Saturday at Torrey Pines High, before losing in the semifinals to Archbishop Mitty of San Jose.

Sailors junior Jamie Heenan had 16 kills, six digs and six service aces in Newport’s 25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-12 win over Marymount. Megan Munce added 10 kills and four aces, and Megan Toman had 12 kills, two blocks and an ace.

Katie Wells had six kills and three blocks and Alesha Young added seven digs, 45 assists and two blocks.

Heenan had eight kills and eight digs in the Sailors’ 25-15, 25-17, 25-16 loss to Archbishop Mitty. Wells added six kills and Young had 24 assists and five digs.

Newport (14-2) faces Los Alamitos Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Danny O’Neil, Josh Young and Ryan Tasbichi all had goals, but Estancia lost to the Newport Harbor junior varsity team, 22-3, on Saturday.
