Bruins need overtime to capture Smythe Division

It took overtime to decide which team would reign in the Smythe Division at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach, and it was the Bruins who edged Light It Up, 9-8.

A goal by Kyle Langley, set up by Braxton Greco, decided the outcome, as division championship play heated up at the Center on Saturday.

Langley finished the match with two goals and the Bruins, who rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring five goals in the final period, were led in scoring by Jeremy Corwin with three goals. Tyler Sanchez also scored twice and Tanner Webb once.

Sanchez and Matthew Oyakawa each had an assist and Jessica Baltazar recorded 30 saves.

Christopher Kao of Light It Up topped all scorers with four goals. Chris Theriault, Thomas Souza and Lawrence Benavente also scored. Kao and Theriault each had an assist and Michael Kramer assisted two goals.

Austin Koss finished with 27 saves.

Howe Division

TNT 9, Puckhogs 3

TNT posted three goals in each of the three periods to defeat the Puckhogs for the division title.

Evan Hess, Cody Sizemore and Joshua Swafford each scored twice and Dylan Rodriguez, Slater Hoar and Adam Hess added one goal apiece.

Rodriguez and Steven Landis each had two assists and Swafford and Adam Hess each had one.

Tyler Allen had 39 saves.

Kayden Muzila scored twice and added an assist to lead the Puckhogs. Manny Banuelos also scored and had two assists, Jake Beardshear had an assist and Sam Prizler finished with 46 saves.

Norris Division

Bears 6, Grommets 3

The Bears outscored the Grommets, 2-0, in the final period to pull away and win the division championship.

Austin Koss led all scorers with four goals and other Bears goals were scored by Cooper Haar and Justin Campbell.

Campbell also led the team in assists with three, Casey Rhodes had an assist and Evan Gray recorded 26 saves.

Jake Rennison scored all three goals for the Grommets, one coming off an assist from Danielle Dapello. Emmett Jaeger had 33 saves.
