WHITTIER — Led by senior John Roche’s 10 goals and senior Scott Neslage’s 30 saves, the Costa Mesa High boys’ water polo team went 1-1 in the first two rounds of the 40-team Hank Vallenkamp Tournament Monday at Whittier High.
Costa Mesa beat Buena Park, 17-6, in the first round and lost, 20-5, in the second round to Montebello, the No. 2-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division III.
Junior Skyler Twohig scored five combined goals for Mesa.

CORONA DEL MAR — Juliane Piggott had 21 kills and 13 digs to help the Sea Kings post a 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20 Pacific Coast League win Monday.
Kelly Christian had four aces and 16 assists, while Shannon Johnson added 19 digs for CdM (13-2, 3-0 in league).
Kasey Kipp had eight kills and Kara Chatham had seven.
