Across an ocean for learning
For the 25th year in a row, Newport Beach sponsored an exchange program with its sister city, Okazaki, Japan. This summer, seven students from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District — three from Corona del Mar High School, four from Newport Harbor High School — ventured to Okazaki to visit their peers, and this week, seven Japanese teens repaid the honor.
On Wednesday morning, Corona del Mar High held an assembly to welcome the young ambassadors, who wore traditional red and black robes and gave a song-and-dance presentation. The Japanese students planned to attend classes at the school through Friday.
