SANTA ANA — Corona del Mar Coach Mike Starkweather said both teams had a girl disqualified for illegally playing an out-of-bounds ball, with a CdM player’s score of 49 and a Newport Harbor round of 60 being thrown out at Santa Ana Country Club on Wednesday.

The remaining scores resulted in a tie, and with no sixth score available, it held up.

Senior Jessica Milner was the medalist for CdM (8-0-1) with a six-over-par 42. Courtney Wright (44), Jonna Kim (51), Quinn Kawata (53) and Kelly Moorhead (56) also scored for the Sea Kings.

Lauren Draganza (46), Tiffany Kim (47), Ali Thomas (48), Morgan Moody (52) and Brittney Phillips (53) scored for Newport (8-2-3).

IRVINE — Sophomore Kelsey Venditozzi was the medalist with a 10-over-par 46, helping the Lightning win their Academy League opener at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course on Wednesday.

Also scoring for Sage Hill (2-3, 1-0 in league) were Kimmie Venditozzi (48), Sara Anderson (50), Natalie Kraft (51) and Amy Babbush (56).

LAGUNA BEACH — Senior Sidney Barloon finished second in 21 minutes, 33 seconds to lead the Eagles’ girls team to a 20-40 Orange Coast League victory over the Breakers at Alta Vista’s three-mile course Wednesday.

Sophomore Alexa Aguilar (3rd, 21:36), junior Eunice Rodriguez (4th, 21:42), junior Paula Negretti (5th, 21:43) and sophomore Sindy Ramirez (6th, 22:04) rounded out the top five for Estancia.

Sophomore Fernando Orozco finished second place in 17:06 in the Eagles’ 23-33 loss to Laguna Beach. Wes Barloon (5th, 17:49), Cesar Casillas (6th, 17:51), Enrique Vivar (9th, 18:15) and Adreil Robles (11th, 18:32) also competed.

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Mike Berry scored a game-high four goals to lead the Sea Kings to the victory in the Pacific Coast League opener Wednesday.

Senior Brian Peotter added five saves for Corona del Mar (6-4, 1-0 in league).

LAKE ARROWHEAD — Juliane Piggott had 18 kills and Kasey Kipp added two solo blocks in a 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 nonleague win for the Sea Kings (12-2) Wednesday.

Corona del Mar plays at Laguna Hills today.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 16, Dana Point 2 CORONA DEL MAR — The doubles teams of Lindsay Zotovich and Melissa Matsuoka, as well as Karen Ishii and Michelle Atkins, swept their three sets for the Sea Kings (12-0) in a nonleague match.

Corona del Mar was ahead 10-0 at one point in a battle of the top two teams in the CIF Southern Section Division I rankings.
