“Splash” is back with “Splashback to Fantasy Island,” showing this weekend at the Festival of Arts.

This year’s show, a parody of the “Fantasy Island” TV show, features magic tricks, a bit of Barbra and reference to Massachusetts’s lenient civil laws.

Saturday’s show will also sport dinner, an open bar, silent auction and casino games. Friday’s preview includes complimentary cocktails.

This year’s event has already raised more than $400,000 for people affected by HIV/AIDS in Orange County, an issue close to the hearts of many in the city; at one time, Laguna had one of the highest number of AIDS cases per capita in the country.

The annual “Splash” fundraiser, which began in 1985 in Ken Jillson and Al Roberts’ backyard, got its name from the synchronized swimming routine in their pool.

The pair also founded the AIDS Services Foundation (ASF) in their house that year, also the year Roberts’ friend Rock Hudson died.

Now, a kiddie pool is incorporated into the stage, and the event has raised over $5 million for ASF.

The original “Fantasy Island” featured a mysterious host (plus the diminutive Tattoo) who granted the wishes of the guests who arrived at Fantasy Island “” with a twist.

This version is no different, and features “celebrities” as guests seeking normalcy.

However, the real Nicole Kidman never had legs like this one does, and there would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth were Mel Gibson to see his counterpart’s antics.

New on the stage this year as Tattoo is nine-year-old Jacob Wardsmith, an El Morro student whose mother Roxanna Ward was an original collaborator for the production, in between teaching and directing music for schools and community theater groups and choirs.

Now she’s a self-described “stage mom,” pointing out Jake’s antics to friends during rehearsals and helping him with his cues.

“It’s fabulous,” she said of her son’s involvement. “I lost my collaborator to AIDS, lost my best friend to AIDS ... Jake lost his uncle ... it’s the circle of life.”

Saturday’ live auction will include Rock Hudson memorabilia, first-class airfare and a fighter jet experience. There will also be a Ritz Carlton opportunity drawing.

The show opens with an exquisite classical instrumental dance, but the debauchery begins soon after with the introduction of lip-syncing Miss Mai Tai, complete with parasol, flamingo cocktail stirrer and mustache.

And no “Splash” event would be complete without hot guys in breakaway jeans, of course.
