Beach volleyball tryouts Saturday

The Main Beach Volleyball Club is holding a second and last day of tryouts for the upcoming Southern California Volleyball Association’s Boys’ Club season Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Thurston Middle School.

Boys ages 15 to 18 are invited to tryout. No tryout fee is required. Practices will start at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Hoops league back at Boys & Girls Club

Registration for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach Boys’ Basketball League is being taken through Sept. 29. The league is open to boys in grades kindergarten through eighth.

The Basketball League fee is $85 per player and includes a new uniform. A $10 late fee will apply to registration taken after the Sept. 29 deadline. If a parent or guardian of a child is interested in coaching a team, please complete the application while registering your child. League sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Practices begin in November and the season starts in December following the completion of the AYSO fall soccer season. All participants must be a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach.

Club membership fee is $135 per year for youth ages six to 18 and includes access to more than 30 club after school programs at the Main Branch, including Power Hour Homework Help, JazzMasters and Photo Club.

Registration is being taken at Boys & Girls Clubs’ main branch at 1085 Laguna Canyon Road. No mail or e-mail registration is being accepted.
