Costa Mesa Police have arrested Robert Charles Berg, 61, of Stanton on a charge of attempted homicide in the Saturday freeway shooting of a Costa Mesa man.
Duane Kressin, 28, of Costa Mesa, was hospitalized at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana after Berg allegedly shot him in the chest during what police said was a road rage incident on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway.
Police said Kressin was riding in his car, which a friend was driving, around 5:45 p.m. Saturday when a man cut them off with his pickup truck on the northbound 55 freeway.
The truck’s driver stopped in front of Kressin’s vehicle on the off-ramp at Del Mar Avenue. Kressin got out of his vehicle to confront the other driver, who shot him in the chest, police said.
Berg was being held in the Orange County Jail on $1-million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Newport Beach.
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Don Holford said Kressin’s condition was improved but he was still in intensive care late Sunday.
