COSTA MESA — Vanguard University senior Heather Hutton posted her second career hat trick to lead the Lions to a 4-0 nonconference women’s soccer win over visiting Chapman on Wednesday.
Rachel Housepian and Hutton posted first-half goals for the Lions (4-0-1).
Marissa Swift and Kelsey Bowman had two saves apiece to preserve the shutout.
Chapman fell to 3-1.

COSTA MESA — Five different Lions scored to fuel a nonconference blowout Wednesday.
Junior Anthony Burrola opened the scoring in the second minute and teammates Sem Lopez, Brian Vestal, Daniel Ybarra and Dane Gallion also found the net to help Vanguard improve to 3-1.
Christopher Swift and William Johnson combined for one save to preserve the shutout for the Lions, for whom Lopez registered two assists.

COSTA MESA — The Lions fell to the defending NAIA national champions, 30-18, 30-16, 30-23, in Golden State Athletic Conference action Tuesday.
Vanguard (7-4, 0-3 in conference) committed 11 serving errors to help Cal Baptist improve to 12-1, 3-0).
Heather DeJongh and Kelsey Wirt led the Lions with nine kills each. Wirt also finished with a team-leading 10 digs.
Breeann Peterson and Meghan Walsh produced 12 assists each.
