OBITUARY

DANIEL J. BEANE

Daniel J. Beane, 59, of Palm Desert, died Aug. 15 after a brief illness.

He had previously lived in Laguna Beach for 25 years.

Born June 22, 1947 in Ames, Iowa, Beane graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1969 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. He completed his masters of science at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and was working toward a doctorate at Oxford University.

Beane served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1973. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

He had been employed as an executive with numerous environmental waste companies, as a consultant for water projects in Nicaragua, and most recently was employed under government contract in Iraq rebuilding hospitals.

A humanitarian, he initiated and supported a library in Nicaragua and dedicated many years to “Splash,” the major fundraiser for the AIDS Services Foundation of Orange County.

He is survived by his mother, Bernadine Beane; and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kenzie Constantine of Pioche, Nev.

Memorial services in Stuart, Iowa, are pending, to be followed by internment at Dexter, Iowa. Arrangements are being handled by Kuhn Funeral Home of Dexter, Iowa.

The family suggests donations in his memory to the AIDS Services Foundation of Orange County, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of their choice.
