Sawdust peer award winners announced

Winners have been announced in the Sawdust Art Festival’s annual peer judging, in which its 202 artists vote in a series of categories, including Best New Artist and Best Booth.

The winning artists receive a plaque in addition to the knowledge that their work was highly regarded by other exhibitors.

Tied for first place in the Best New Artist award category were Betty Haight and Anne-Liv Scott; Kathy Jones captured second place.

Best Booth honors went to Kirk Milette and Ket Youngstead, who tied for first, followed by Eleanor Henry and Diane Valentino, who took second.

Dion Wright received top honors in the Sculpture competition, with Larry Gill and Terry Thornsley taking second.

Photographer Mike Kelly took first place in his medium, followed by Bruce Hampton in second and Rob Gage in third.

Julita Jones took first place in printmaking, with Susan Dysinger taking second place and Hedy Buzan third.

Donita Lloyd and Scott Moore tied for first in Painting on Board or Canvas, followed by Kathy Jones in second, who also won first place in Painting on Paper or Fabric; Kelly Akins and Sandra Weir tied for second in that competition.

Jeweler Don Beres took first in his category, with Greg Thorne in second; Ray Caruso and Rachel Goberman tied for third.

Michele Taylor received top honors in Two and Three Dimensional Mixed Media, followed by Troy Poeschl in second and Suzette Rosenthal in third.

Blown Glass distinctions were given to Gavin Heath, followed by John Barber in second place, and Loren Chapman and Jason McQuaid tied for third.
