NEWPORT BEACH PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP
- Share via
Here are some items the Planning Commission considered Thursday.
NEWPORT BEACH BREWING CO.
A number of residents turned out to complain about operations at the Newport Beach Brewing Co., on Newport Boulevard on the Balboa Peninsula, but the commission postponed a decision on whether to change the restaurant/bar’s permit.
Some Cannery Village residents and business owners charge that the brewing company operates solely as a bar in the late evenings, and that patrons urinate in the bushes and are noisy outside the restaurant. At the meeting, some patrons said they order food from the restaurant late at night, so the kitchen is indeed open.
Commission members voted to continue the hearing in September, when they will discuss placing new conditions on the brewing company or revoking its permit to operate if no solutions to the problems are found.
WHAT IT MEANS
The commission will take up the Newport Beach Brewing Co.’s permit again Sept. 21. In the meantime, residents and restaurant officials will meet to try to resolve the complaints.
CHURCH/SCHOOL EXPANSION
The commission also delayed a decision on the planned expansion of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church’s school and church facilities. The church on Mar Vista Drive will take over space occupied by St. Mark Presbyterian Church, which is building at a new site.
Neighbors are worried about traffic and parking in the area, partly because the church is next door to Corona del Mar High School, and the commission still had questions, so the item was continued.
WHAT IT MEANS
Our Lady Queen of Angels Church’s expansion will be discussed again Sept. 7.
