Four City Council seats and the city attorney’s position are up for election Nov. 7. All the positions are four-year terms.
With Mayor Dave Sullivan’s decision not to seek reelection, the deadline to file for the council was extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The candidates below filed nomination papers:
City Council
Joe Carchio, owner of Jersey Joe’s Italian eatery, lost 2002 Council elections by narrow margin.
Gil Coerper (incumbent), a retired Huntington Beach police officer, if reelected would serve as mayor next year.
Cathy Green (incumbent), nurse, running for second term
Jill Hardy (incumbent), school teacher, running for second term
Flossie Horgan, planning commissioner, Bolsa Chica Land Trust co-founder and a biology professor.
Joe Shaw, owner of California Greetings and Surf City USA stores on Main Street.
Norm “Firecracker” Westwell, a business owner and politically-active resident, finished seventh in 2002 Council elections.
