Corona del Mar resident Cierra Gaytan-Leach captured titles in girls’ 16 singles and doubles at the West Coast Junior Championships, completed Friday at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento.
Gaytan-Leach, the No. 6 seed, defeated top-seeded Sophie Chang of Cupertino, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, in Thursday’s singles final.
The come-from-behind triumph continued a theme for Gaytan-Leach in the singles draw. She rallied past Fidan Manashirova from Elk Grove, Calif., 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, in a semifinal on Thursday.
In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Gaytan-Leach was forced to overcome a first-set loss in a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 triumph over her doubles partner, Tayler Davis, from San Jose.
In the doubles final, Gaytan-Leach and Davis, seeded No. 2, defeated No. 3-seeded Kierstan Steinhauer from Rolling Hills and Cze-Ja Tam from Palos Verdes Estates, 8-2.
Gaytan-Leach and Davis, both of whom are eligible to compete in the 14 division, but elected to play up, topped No. 4-seeded Kelsie and Callie Craig from Orem, Utah, 8-3, in Thursday’s semifinals.
Gaytan-Leach and Davis won their quarterfinal, 8-1, and advanced from the round of 16 with an 8-3 victory, after receiving a first-round bye.
Gaytan-Leach is entered in the 16 singles draw at the United States Tennis Assn. National Hardcourt Championships that began Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
