MAY-TREANOR BESTED
Former Newport Harbor High standout Misty May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh had to settle for second place at the Federation Intenationale de Volleyball Henkel Grand Chelem beach volleyball tournament completed Saturday near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
May-Treanor and Walsh were defeated, 20-22, 21-15, 15-13, by Brazilians Juliana Felisberta and Larissa Franca in the final.
May-Treanor and Walsh split the $28,300 runner-up prize money.
The Sunday men’s final at the same tournament featured Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb, who along with teammate Sean Rosenthal was defeated, 21-11, 21-17, by the Brazilian duo of Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhae.
Gibb and Rosenthal, the No. 15 seed, will split the $28,300 second-place prize.
LEWIS MAKES FINAL
Corona del Mar High and Orange Coast College product Brian Lewis’ Huntington Beach team was defeated, 15-6, in the one-game final of the Karch Kiraly Invitational on the final day of the Bank of the West Beach Games on Sunday at the Huntington Beach Pier.
Lewis, competing on the four-person team, was bested by the Newport Beach team that included no players from Newport Beach.
Steve Timmons, a product of Newport Harbor High and OCC, played on the Del Mar team that was defeated by Newport Beach in the semifinals on Sunday.
CDM SEEKING COACHES
The Corona del Mar High football program is looking for lower-level assistant coaches.

MARATHON TRAINING
The Get Fit Training Program designed to help runners prepare for the OC Marathon on Jan. 7, 2007, begins Saturday at 7 a.m. at Corona del Mar High.
For a $99 registration fee, runners will receive expert coaching in a supportive, non-competitive environment, participate in group workouts with runners of similar ablity level, receive a Cal Coast training hat and a Cal Coast “OC Marathoner in Training” T-shirt.
Weekly training schedules and a step-by-step training guide will be provided and runners will also be offered seminars on equipment, nutrition, hydration and more.
The program requires participants to run or walk four days a week (five days a week later in the program). The long run-walk sessions will be held Saturday mornings according to ability group levels.
During the week, participants train with workouts based on time, rather than distance.
In addition, runners are encouraged to register early for the OC Marathon. Those who register online at www.OCMarathon.com, will receive a free OC Marathon jacket.
Registration fees are $85 for the marathon (26.2 miles), $40 for the half marathon, and $25 for the 5K (3.1 miles).
