$1-million bail for alleged rapist

A Huntington Beach man is being held on $1-million bail after he allegedly robbed, sexually assaulted and beat an elderly woman in the unincorporated area of Rossmoor, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

Jeffrey Blue Miller, 35, is scheduled to enter a plea Aug. 3 to charges of rape, robbery and other felonies. He was arrested July 12 after Sheriff’s deputies received a call about a suspicious person in the 11000 block of Martha Ann Drive, Amormino said.

Miller allegedly ransacked the woman’s home, stealing jewelry and other valuables, and sexually assaulted the woman, who is in her 80s, Amormino said.

The Orange County District Attorney’s office filed 10 felony charges against Miller, including first-degree residential burglary; four counts of rape with a foreign object by force; first-degree robbery; kidnapping; assault with intent to commit rape; aggravated assault; and torture, according to the complaint filed by the district attorney’s office.

Because of the nature of the alleged attack and the victim’s age, this counts as a one-strike offense, said Orange County District Attorney public affairs counsel Susan Kang Schroeder.

“If a sexual assault is committed in a way that is brutal, that’s with force, as in this case, then he could spend the rest of his life in prison,” she said. “In this case, we have a very vulnerable victim. It’s hard to imagine how anybody could assault a senior citizen in this brutal manner.”

Miller was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for narcotics violations, making this crime a parole violation, Amormino said.

“I doubt if he’ll ever see the light of day again,” Amormino said.
