Rangers 9, Mariners 9: The Mariners led, 9-7, in the sixth inning before Paddy Conroy hit an inside-the-park home run for the Rangers (5-1-2). Blake Schneekluth then reached on an error and later scored on Taylor Gleason’s single to tie the score.

Kyle Thrush pitched two solid innings for the Rangers in relief. Anthony Cecere also homered, and Thrush doubled for the Rangers. A.J. Sanchez made some strong defensive plays in the sixth inning.

ALL-STARS

The Newport-Mesa all-stars (8-3) had a strong showing in the national championships, held April 8-9 in Orange County. Newport-Mesa defeated teams from Fremont and Scripps Ranch before losing to Chino Valley by two points and being eliminated by eventual fifth-place finisher Hanford by one.

The all-stars went 6-1 in the area and sectional tournaments, holding their opponents to an average of 38 points per game.

The team consisted of Cecil Whiteside, Nico Napolitano, Alex Swigert, Jay Ordaz, Jamie Heinecke, James Seals, Jake Manning, Luis Gomez, Luke Christiano and Jarrett Logan. The team was coached by Troy Hall, David Holman and Al Jackson.
