Breakers set record, suffer first setback
The Laguna Beach High boys’ track and field team suffered its first Pacific Coast League setback April 13 when the host Breakers fell to undefeated Northwood, 69-57, at Guyer Field.
One highlight for the Breakers was the performance of their 4 by 100 relay team of EJ Gomez, Jonathon Martinez, Mike Austin and Behrang Ziaeian, which set a school record with a time of 43.3.
The Breakers, who competed without one of its top distance runners, Aman Bhatia, had two individual first-place finishers. Ziaeian won the 200 (25.0) and 400 (51.5), and Justin Rovin won the 110-hurdles (13.1) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (39.8).
The Laguna girls fell to Northwood, 89-37. Double winners for the Breakers were Alex Crawley in the 1,600 (5:32) and 3,200 (12:07), and Brittany Clark in the 100 (12.4) and 200 (26.7).
