DUI charges in crash

A Huntington Beach woman was arrested early Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence after she crashed her SUV into a Costa Mesa apartment complex, Costa Mesa Police said.

According to police, Dana Lynn Burkhouse, 22, was driving her 2005 Honda SUV at a high rate of speed just after midnight when she crashed through four fences and collided with two buildings and a parked car on Maple and Victoria streets.

A 2-by-4 board smashed through the windshield of her vehicle and nearly struck her on the head, police said.

The Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to treat Burkhouse, who was showing signs of intoxication, police said.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian for minor injuries.

Burkhouse was released from the hospital into police custody, and her bail was set at $2,500, police said.

Costa Mesa building inspectors determined that, although the damage to the buildings Burkhouse hit was extensive, they were still structurally sound.

Broken windows and holes in the building were boarded after the evaluation. None of the buildings’ residents was reported injured, according to the police.
