Sailors reach finals

HUNTINGTON BEACH ? Newport Harbor High’s boys’ volleyball team has advanced to the finals of the Orange County Championships.

The Sailors defeated Foothill (25-18, 27-25), Los Alamitos (25-21, 25-14) and Santa Margarita (21-25, 25-17, 15-10) on Saturday to reach Monday night’s championship match against Edison.

Kyle Caldwell had 30 kills in the three matches for Newport Harbor. Weston Dunlap added 21 kills, including six blocks against Santa Margarita.

Corona del Mar finished sixth in the tournament. The Sea Kings defeated Esperanza (25-21, 22-25, 15-12) and Los Alamitos (25-21, 26-24) and lost to Santa Margarita (25-23, 19-25, 17-15) and Mater Dei (26-24, 25-23).

Adam Smith had eight kills for CdM against Esperanza and Gus Ellis had seven kills and six blocks in the win over Los Alamitos.
