Mariners take opener from Angels

As season openers go, the Mariners couldn’t ask for a better start to their 2006 Little League season debut.

Playing a Minor A Division opener against the Angels on the Majors Division field Saturday, the Mariners scored a 15-3 victory.

Stuart Morton had a home run and a single, Micah Willis singled twice and Andrew Arledge, Gavin Wuerfel and Austin Chenevert each had hits for the Mariners.

Chenevert, Nick Torres, Jake Lopez and Mitchell Knight scored runs, Arnold Zinovyev reached base three times and catcher Malia Hayes turned in a strong game behind the plate.

T.J. Carlson and Andrew Arledge each pitched two innings and allowed three runs between them. Morton threw the final two innings, striking out five.
