Police were searching Monday for a man who exposed himself to two 14-year-old girls at Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach over the weekend.
The girls were skateboarding at the park at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a man drove past them in a 1990s silver Toyota pickup with a long aluminum ladder in the truck bed, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Bill Hartford said.
The man got out of his truck near the bathrooms and waved to the girls to come toward him, but they skated away in the opposite direction.
Then, while the girls were taking random photographs ? one of which captured the man from a distance ? they heard a whistle, turned and saw the man standing with his pants down and fondling himself, Hartford said.
The girls ran away and told their parents, who called police.
“The girls did the right thing,” Hartford said.
The suspect is a white man in his 40s, about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and a tan face. He was last seen wearing a light-colored T-shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident or who sees the truck is asked to call Newport Beach Police at (949) 644-3717.
