Martinez’s two-run single helps ‘Eaters hold off Hornets

IRVINE ? Jaime Martinez’s two-run single in the eighth inning gave UC Irvine’s baseball team a 5-4 nonconference victory over Sacramento State on Saturday.
Blair Erickson pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his sixth save of the season and 33rd of his career. The junior is one save away from tying former Cal State Fullerton star Chad Cordero for second place on the all-time Big West Conference save list.
Kyle Necke picked up his first win of the season for UCI (11-6). Dylan Axelrod pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Martinez, Taylor Holiday and Zach Robinson each had two hits for the Anteaters, who play host to Sacramento State in the series finale today at 1 p.m.
