Locals lauded

UC Irvine’s Gary Dudrey and Vanguard University’s Jessica Richter have been honored by their respective conferences for their play last week.

Dudrey was named Big West Conference Player of the Week in baseball. The senior outfielder hit .615 in four games last week ? all wins for UCI. Dudrey had eight hits and four RBI for the Anteaters.

Richter was picked as the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week after averaging 30.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals in two wins. The sophomore guard shot 60.6% from the field (20-for-33) in the victories.

The awards were the first for each this season.
