Coffee Break to host author of parent book

The Laguna Beach Coffee Break group will host author Mary Hartzell from 8:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Surf and Sand Hotel in the Sandcastle room.

Coffee Break is a Laguna Beach PTA-supported organization.

Hartzell co-wrote the book “Parenting from the Inside Out: How a Deep Self-Understanding Can Help You Raise Children Who Thrive.”

Hartzell will explain how interpersonal relationships directly affect the development of the brain. Approaches to deepen self-understanding will also be discussed.

Boys and Girls Club offers Irish dancing classes

The Boys and Girls Club has added Irish dance classes to its weekly curriculum for 5- to 10-year-olds.

Classes will be held at the TLC branch located at Bluebird Park at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, and taught by instructor Jenny Halloran. Branch monthly fees range from $145 to $250. Information: (949) 494-7630.

College of Art and Design opens doors

The Laguna College of Art and Design is inviting prospective students to attend an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb 25.

Participants will be given an opportunity to have their portfolios reviewed and meet with admissions staff and faculty.

Workshops and presentations will be given on admissions, portfolio advising and financial aid.

Reservations must be made no later than Thursday, Feb. 22 at (949) 376-6000 ext. 258.

The college is located at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road. Free parking is available.
