Sailors triumph

FULLERTON -- Newport Harbor High defeated Hawthorne, 60-55, at the Hope International University Boys’ Basketball Challenge on Saturday night.

The Sailors, who struggled from the free-throw line in regulation time, made 6 of 8 from the line in overtime to emerge with the victory.

Kyle Caldwell had 18 points and made 4 of 6 free throws in overtime. Dennis Heenan tallied 18 points and made both of his free throws in overtime. Tony Yaghjian added 12 points for the Sailors (19-5), who close the regular season against Laguna Hills on Wednesday.

Newport Harbor is tied for second place in the Sea View League with Foothill at 6-3.
