Previously, Edison notched its first Sunset League victory by posting a 2-1 win over visiting Huntington Beach.

It took the Chargers just three minutes into the match to light up the scoreboard. Boies, who recently returned to the lineup from an ankle injury, took a pass from senior VanLeer and sent a header over the head of Huntington freshman keeper Sydney George and into the net.

“The keeper and the defender hit me hard, and I had to watch the goal go in from the ground, but that’s OK,” Boies said.

Five minutes before halftime, the Chargers struck again when a corner kick by Boies connected with freshman Alexa Enlow, who scored to make it 2-0.

Huntington came out and played strongly in the second half, getting a goal by senior forward Megan Martinez in the first five minutes of the half. But the Oilers could get no closer. In other girls’ soccer action, Huntington fell to first-place Esperanza, 3-0, in another Sunset matchup.

Ocean View blanked Santa Ana, 2-0, in Golden West League action. Colleen Kustura and Stacy Sullivan scored for the Seahawks, and Vanessa Alvarado had 10 saves to preserve the shutout.

In boys’ soccer:

Edison recorded its second shutout of Marina this season, winning 2-0. Jordan Kato and Jimmy Walker scored for the Chargers, and Dane Kaylor got the shutout on two saves. Chris Quaresma had five saves for the Vikings.

Edison had opened league play on Jan. 4 with a 3-0 win over Marina.

Huntington also won a 2-0 shutout over Esperanza. Kyle McAthy and Alex Sanders scored goals.
