No damage reported from high winds

The high winds that whipped through Newport-Mesa over the past few days are not unusual for this time of year, said National Weather Service forecaster Stan Wasowski. A wind advisory will be in effect through 2 p.m. today, with winds blowing at 15 to 20 mph and gusting up to 35 mph.

Wasowski said the winds are caused by high pressure coming over the Great Basin meeting low pressure off the Northern Baja. The worst damage they’re likely to cause is a few fallen tree limbs, though Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police and fire officials on Monday said they’d had no reports of significant wind damage.
