Sailors take their thirds

SAN CLEMENTE -- Newport Harbor High finished in 11th place at the 25-team San Clemente Rotary Tournament on Saturday.
The Sailors had three wrestlers finish third in their divisions. Zane O’Bourke led the Tars, recording five takedowns in his four matches at 103 pounds. The sophomore won two of his matches by pin. He eventually lost in the semifinals by four points.
Sophomore Eddie Charcas (125) and sophomore Bryan Bennett (215) also had third-place finishes for Newport Harbor.
Sophomore Josh George (130) and senior David Rosales (189) went home with consolation titles in their divisions.
Corona del Mar, which brought just two wrestlers to the meet, placed 25th.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Sage Hill 42, Oxford Academy 25
NEWPORT COAST -- Senior center Haywood Wright had 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks as the Lightning won easily in Academy League play Saturday.
Junior forward Kaitlin Tyre finished with six points and a team-best seven rebounds, and sophomore guard Katie McKeon had four points and five assists for Sage Hill (16-3, 6-0 in league). The Lightning put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Oxford, 14-5.
Oxford Academy dropped to 5-13, 0-6 in league.
