Thrashers shut down the Stars
Defense paves the way to a 2-0 Howe Division victory.The Thrashers put up a good defensive front, and Joshua Fowler came up with 21 saves in a 2-0 victory over the Stars at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.
Greg Hancock and Kevin Reyes scored unassisted goals in the Howe Division match.
David Panchak had 39 saves for the Stars.
In other Howe Division action:
Surf City Sykos 7, Team L.A. 4
Victor Salazar and Alex McCabe each scored two goals to help lead the Sykos past Team L.A.
Also scoring for the victors was Troy Baljeu, Marcus Kurth and Will Shepherd.
Baljeu led the team in assists with two, and Salazar, McCabe, Kurth and Daniel Salazar each had one assist.
Kenneth Nguyen had 21 saves.
The scoring for Team L.A. was spread between Ryan Withey, Brooks Hurst, Jake Beideman and Harry Ellis.
Withey also picked up two assists, and Harry Ellis and Taylor Ellis each had one.
Jonathan Cao finished with 25 saves.
Blind 5, Slickshoes 3
Brandon White and Noah Charnell each posted goals as the Blind outscored the Slickshoes 2-0 in the final period to pick up the victory.
Steven Strother and Luke Bosiljevac also scored, and White, Charnell and Jake Richard each had an assist.
Kristian Burkhardt scored the final two goals for the Slickshoes, Samantha Woodside had one goal and Reed Perkins and Austin Gearty both had assists.
Craig Wellander had 26 saves.
Avalanche 5, Blackhawks 3
The Avalanche outscored the Blackhawks 2-0 in an overtime shootout to pull out the win.
Trevor Brenden, Alex Kemp and Garrett Cook scored goals, Nick Somes had an assist and Brad Giczewski had 29 saves for the Avalanche.
Phillip Berman and Jordan Matsunaga each had a goal and assist, Connor Culhane had an assist and Eric Grant had 27 saves for the Blackhawks.
In Smythe Division action:
Panthers 4, Kings 2
Alex Covert scored twice and Derek Slayton once with a pair of assists to lead the Panthers.
Cameron Trentini also scored, and Jack Miller had 26 saves.
Matthew Bozanich scored for the Kings, Kevin Johnson and Jonah Perez had assists and Brett Vanderham had 25 saves.
Thunder Blades 7, Blue Diamonds 3
Dylan Rodriguez and Adam Hess each scored twice to lead the Thunder Blades on offense.
Brandon Albertson came up with three assists, Adam Hess added one assist and Evan Hess, Joshua Gruwell and Johnny Richardson each scored once for the Thunder Blades.
David Panchak recorded 24 saves.
Sea Monkeys 6, Skulls 4
Kobi Pekich, Slater Hoar, Brandon Sizemore, Jeremy Treskes and Cody Sizemore scored goals for the Sea Monkeys.
Hoar and Justin Speak each had two assists, Pekich and Anthony Tullio had one each and Tanner Chang had 24 saves.
Paige Gast had two goals and one assist. Ethan Higbee had one goal and two assists, Kevin Lawrence one goal, Max McDaniel and Mark Macintosh one assist each and Jason Ferrall 26 saves for the Skulls.
Renegades 5, Mustangs 2
The Renegades jumped out to a 4-0 lead in taming the Mustangs.
Dallas Borski scored the final three goals for the Renegades, and Christopher Pichedwatana and Kaylyn DeJongh each scored once. Dacha Dongird, William Huffman, Andrew Huffman and Thomas Souza each had an assist, and Jayce Borski had 26 saves.
Kellen O’Connell and Christopher Kao scored goals, Niley Smith Cohn and Keane Wong each had an assist and Jessica Baltazar had 27 saves for the Mustangs.
