San Diego handles Anteaters
UCI women at USDToreros outscore UCI by 25 after halftime to help ‘Eaters fall to 1-10 on the season.SAN DIEGO -- The UC Irvine women’s basketball team saw a five-point halftime deficit turn into a 78-48 nonconference loss to the University of San Diego Monday night.
The Anteaters down at halftime, 33-28, shot a paltry 28% from the field in the final 20 minutes (7 for 25) to fall to 1-10.
Junior Angie Ned led UCI with 14 points, while freshman forward Kelly Cochran came off the bench to produce eight points.
The Toreros shot a season-best 56% from the field, including a blistering 69.2% in the second half (18 of 28) to up their record to 5-8.
The Anteaters visit UC Davis Wednesday at 7 p.m., before returning home to open Big West Conference action against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Miranda Forry had four points and a team-high four rebounds for UCI.
Freshman point guard Kirian Ishizaki added six points and a team-high three assists.
Ned made 5 of 17 field-goal tries, including 3 of 6 beyond the arc.
UCI had 28 turnovers.
