Sailors cruise against University

Newport Harbor gets lopsided victory, shuts out Warriors for a quarter.The Newport Harbor High junior varsity girls’ basketball team routed University, 44-10, in a recent nonleague game.

Freshman Jillian Blackledge led the Sailors with 10 points, followed by sophomore Kelly Thompson’s eight points and freshman Ashlyn Moores’ six points. Newport Harbor also benefited from the passing of Cat Cameron and Jessine Urquilla.

The Tars, who led by 26 points at halftime, held University scoreless in the third quarter.

WRESTLING

* Four wrestlers on the Corona del Mar High junior varsity team turned in stellar performances as the Torrance High Invitational.

Scott Lineback won the 215-pound division without dropping a point, moving to 12-0 this season. Max Prescott took third place in the 275-pound division.

Scott Eskew and Scott Feely also had strong performances for the Sea Kings.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

* Newport Harbor’s junior varsity team remained unbeaten with a 12-3 victory over Corona del Mar on Wednesday. The frosh-soph team also defeated the Sea Kings, winning, 2-1, to maintain its undefeated record.
