Wave takes 2nd
Team falls in overtime of tournament’s championship game.The Silver All-Stars, a.k.a. the Huntington Beach Wave, finished runner-up at last weekend’s Long Beach Mayor’s Cup tournament.
The AYSO Region 56 girls’ under-10 team fell in the tournament final, losing in overtime to the Red Hots.
Wave 4, Freaky Dinky Monkeys 2
The Wave opened the tournament with a decisive victory.
Carly Kaplan led the scoring with two goals, and teammates Katie Moss and Chloe Murray each scored once.
Wave 1, Untouchables 1
Carly Kaplan posted the lone goal for the Wave, as they played the Untouchables to a tie.
It was the first of two tournament ties for the Wave, whose next outing resulted in a scoreless tie against the Red Hots.
Red Hots 1, Wave 0
The teams ended up playing for the division title, and the Red Hots won it in an overtime shootout.
Jordyn Lepak and Gianna Guinasso played well in goal for the Wave.
Coached by Don Roy and Angelo Guinasso, the all-star team also received strong offensive and defensive play from Katie Conway, Chloe Roy, Caitlyn Bartusik, Hailey McBride, Natalie Zumwalt and Peyton Macias.
