OCC road trip ends in loss

OCEANSIDE -- Orange Coast College’s three-game winning streak in men’s basketball came to an end with an 85-83 loss to Mira Costa College in a nonconference game on Wednesday.
The Pirates (11-5) were coming off a 74-53 victory over Rio Hondo College on Sunday in the championship game of the Vaquero Classic at Glendale College.
Mira Costa (5-8) avenged a 64-49 loss to the Pirates in the first round of the L.A. Southwest Intensity Classic on Dec. 8.
The Pirates entered the game ranked No. 13 in Southern California, moving up four spots from the previous week. Mira Costa was unranked.
OCC will be off until Tuesday, when it opens play at the San Jose City Holiday Tournament. The Pirates will meet Los Medanos College in the first round of the eight-team tournament. The field for the tournament includes host San Jose City (ranked No. 11 in the state) and Monterey Peninsula (ranked No. 17 in the state).
