Laguna Relief and Resource Center seeks donors to buy gifts for low-income local families. The Laguna Relief and Resource Center still has low-income families who need to be adopted for holiday giving. This program pairs up a needy family with groups or families in our community who make up a gift box according to the families needs and wishes. The gift boxes are delivered to the families before Christmas or to the Resource Center for distribution.
Much of the income of the families goes toward rent and necessities, leaving very little for toys and treats, spokewoman Marsha Bode said.
Families needing adoption include:
* Mom and dad, boy, 5, girl, 4. They live in town and have had their rent raised for next year. The boy wants Transformers and books; the girl wants books, a Barbie doll and a My Little Pony set.
* Single mom and daughter, 9; the girl wants pajamas, books, shoes and a toy
* Mom and dad and three kids, girls, 13 and 14, and boy, 16. They are going to lose their apartment in town next year because the owners want to rehab the building to get higher rents. The kids all want Converse high-tops, and the parents want a warm blanket.
* Single mom with a boy 14, and a girl, 16. The boy wants a remote-control car, the girl wants a DVD of “Charmed” (the TV series). Mom needs pots and pans and dishes. They lost everything in Hurricane Katrina.
* Mom, dad and two girls, 8 and 4, and two boys, 6 and 6 months. The girls want a Hello Kitty doll house and a doll baby carriage. The older boy wants Hot Wheels, a soccer ball and books. The baby needs diapers and a play center the baby can sit in and spin around to do different activities. Mom and dad want a bedspread or comforter.
* Single mom with a 3-year-old girl and 9 month-old boy. The girl wants clothes and any toy. The baby is just starting to crawl and likes things he can pick up and chew on. Mom needs clothes.
