Two men arrested for burglary

Two men who allegedly broke into a Newport Beach restaurant led police on a chase down the Balboa Peninsula early Sunday before being arrested, police said.

A Hoag Hospital security guard called police when he noticed two cars, a black Cadillac Escalade and a blue Chevrolet Tahoe, pull into the parking lot of the Royal Thai Cuisine restaurant at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The security guard later saw one person inside the restaurant.

When officers arrived, two men got into the vehicles and drove away, down West Coast Highway and onto the Balboa Peninsula, police said.

Police followed the vehicles until the driver of the Cadillac Escalade stopped after hitting a light pole. Police did not immediately locate the driver of the Cadillac. He was later found hiding in the back of a residence in the 500 block of K street, police said.

The Chevrolet Tahoe was found abandoned at the Wedge, at the end of the Balboa Peninsula. After police and Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol conducted an area search they found the driver hiding among jetty rocks, police said.

John Davis, 33, of Long Beach was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary. Davis also had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. Ray Anthony Rhodes, 27, of Los Angeles was also arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary, police said.
