UCI loses sixth straight
uc irvine women’s hoopsSANTA CLARA -- The Santa Clara women’s basketball team trounced visiting UC Irvine, 99-71, Sunday, dropping the Anteaters to 0-6.
The 99 points were the most scored against a UCI team since UNLV defeated the ‘Eaters, 100-71, on Feb. 5, 1993.
Sophomore Stephanie Duda scored a season-high 15 points in 20 minutes and senior Kimberly Martin came off the bench to score a season-high 14, before fouling out in 14 minutes, to lead the Anteaters.
Martin made 6 of 10 field-goal attempts and Duda was 5 of 10. But the rest of the ‘Eaters were a combined 12 of 39 from the field, and UCI committed 30 turnovers.
UCI forced 31 turnovers by Santa Clara (2-4), which shot 57.1% from the field (28 of 49).
UCI will look for its first win this season when it plays host to New Mexico State on Dec. 14.
