Lions help for the holidays

The Harbor Mesa Lions are sponsoring three families in the area this holiday season to make sure they have their wishes fulfilled. Items such as clothing, shoes, books and food are what the family members have said they would like to receive.
Harbor Mesa members will be delivering these gifts to the families in mid-December. Chairing the project are Sue Seager and Amy Houck. Members of Harbor Mesa Lions purchase the items individually after choosing the “wish tags” from a tree at a recent meeting.
“Our members truly open their hearts at this time of the year,” said President Carol Van Holt. “The spirit of giving is what Lions clubs are about, not only for the holidays, but all year.”
Santa and Woo Woo will entertain the Lions
Newport Harbor Lions and Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions will have a joint Christmas celebration meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club.
Members will bring their family members to the dinner meeting and will be entertained by Woo Woo Stevens, who is well known in the community and in the entertainment world for his banjo playing and singing.
After a brief career in Major League Baseball, and being advised that he would be a better entertainer by the legendary Babe Ruth, the 96-year-old entertainer has performed for more than 70 years, including two recent Christmas cruises for Disney.
Santa will also make an appearance to give out gifts to the children and grandchildren attending the meeting.
