Marina dominates basketball opener

Vikings treat Beckman to a 60-20 romp.The Marina High girls’ basketball team opened its 2005-06 season Monday with a rousing victory as the Vikings disposed of Beckman, 60-20.
The Vikings bolted out to a 21-3 lead after one quarter and extended their advantage to 33-14 at the half.
Erin Barney scored 24 points to lead Marina, and Rachael Maulit scored 12.
In boys’ basketball:
Huntington Beach’s season opener Monday was a success, as the Oilers took care of Sunny Hills, 52-41, in the opening round of the Coyote Classic at Buena Park High.
The Oilers, who led 25-15 at the half, were paced by Nick Becker with 20 points and Jeff VanDoornum with nine.
In girls’ soccer:
Edison opened its season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Mission Viejo. Senior midfielder Elyse Kirmaci scored the first goal of the season for the Chargers, who took a 1-0 lead at the half.
Newcomers Alexa Enlow and Kallie Ryker combined for Edison’s second goal, with Enlow sending a cross to Ryker, who punched the ball into the net.
Keepers Cassie Becker and Keenan Castillo combined to record the shutout.
