Mustangs gallop to win

CHINO HILLS -- Senior Tracy Bjelland scored a game-high 19 points and led the Costa Mesa High girls’ basketball team to a 42-27 season-opening victory over La Habra in the first round of the Chino Hills Tournament on Wednesday.
Costa Mesa (1-0) used a 15-4 burst in the second quarter to take an 11-point lead at halftime.Bjelland added four steals while senior Bethany Vergara chipped in nine points in the victory.
The Mustangs (1-0) will face Pomona Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in their second game of pool play at the tournament.
