Marshall’s first a winner

RIVERSIDE -- Corona del Mar High graduate Daniel Marshall scored his first goal of the season as UC Irvine shut out UC Riverside, 1-0, in a Big West Conference game on Wednesday.
Marshall, a senior, scored from 22 yards out off an assist by Anthony Hamilton.
UCI goalkeeper Ryan Mathy, who earned his seventh shutout this season, broke the school single-season record. He also tied the UCI record (14) for most career shutouts.
The Anteaters (8-4-3, 4-1-1 in conference) host Cal Poly Pomona Saturday at 7 p.m.

Vanguard 4, San Diego Christian 1
SAN DIEGO -- Vanguard (8-7-2, 4-4-1 in conference) outshot the Hawks, 22-7, en route to a Golden State Athletic Conference victory Wednesday.
James Grigas scored two goals in the first half for the Lions, and Jeremy Small increased the lead to 3-0 after scoring in the 61st minute. A final goal by Jason Swift left the Hawks trailing by three with 24 minutes remaining.
Vanguard goalkeeper William Johnson, who played the entire game, had three saves.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Orange Coast def. Cypress
CYPRESS -- Kiwi Winkler led the way with 21 kills as the Orange Coast women’s volleyball team remained undefeated with a 30-27, 30-16, 30-21 Orange Empire Conference victory over Cypress on Wednesday night.
Jennifer Chiffer tallied 11 kills and Caitlin Parker added 29 assists for the Pirates, who improved to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in conference action.
Orange Coast hosts Riverside on Friday at 7 p.m.
