Eagles soar at league finals

COSTA MESA -- Estancia placed three golfers in the top five, and seven finished in the top 10 at the Golden West League girls’ golf finals on Tuesday.
Bridget Gleason captured first place, Lina You finished in second, and Caroline took fourth for the Eagles at Costa Mesa Golf Course. Taylor West took seventh for the Eagles, followed by Lauren Cushing (eighth), Lauren Donner (ninth), and Avery Williams (10th).
Costa Mesa’s Melissa Pardue finished in 11th place.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Saddleback 18, Estancia 2
SANTA ANA -- Trevor McDonald scored two goals for Estancia, but it wasn’t enough for the Eagles in a Golden West League match Tuesday.
Leonard Juska and Scott Hulett had two saves for Estancia, which fell to 10-7, 3-1 in league.
The Eagles visit Costa Mesa in a league-rival showdown Thursday.
Sage Hill 18, Whitney 2
CERRITOS -- Sage Hill dominated Whitney in an Academy League victory Tuesday, scoring nine goals in each half, and holding the Wildcats to one goal in each half.
Seven athletes tallied goals for Sage Hill, including Beau Caillouette (5 goals), Julian Tooma (4), James Miller (3), Jordan Cline (3), Ryan Barth (1), Perry Pang (1) and Chris Mazzo (1).
Danny Harold had 15 saves for Sage, which improved to 13-7 overall.
Newport Harbor 12, El Toro 10
NEWPORT BEACH -- Clay Jorth scored a game-high four goals as the Sailors edged the Chargers in a nonleague game Tuesday.
Brett Auer and Blake Hockenbury each had two goals for Newport, and Parker Gregory, Broc Hill, Kyle Sherman and Telford Cottam each scored one.
Bryce McLain held El Toro down with 14 saves.
The Sailors (16-3) outscored the Chargers, 6-4 in the second half, and play host to Irvine today.

Sage Hill 18, Fairmont Prep 0
ANAHEIM -- Sage Hill jumped to 15-2, 10-0 in the Academy League after sweeping Fairmont Prep Tuesday.
Sage, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division V, faces Corona del Mar Thursday.

SANTA ANA -- Jill Casserly, Carly Adams and Natalie Small each swept their three sets for Newport Harbor, which romped past host Foothill in a Sea View League victory Tuesday.
The Sailors (14-2, 8-0 in league) face another league match on Thursday against Aliso Niguel.

Estancia 17, Saddleback 1 SANTA ANA -- Heather Morton and Sarah Stratton swept all three sets at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles in Estancia’s victory over Saddleback Tuesday.
At the No. 1 doubles position, Cathy Pittman and Sage O’Toole were victorious in all three sets.
The Eagles improve to 11-0 in league, 14-2 overall, and have one match remaining after claiming the Golden West League title last week.

Newport Harbor 2, Edison 0
NEWPORT BEACH -- The Newport Harbor girls scored two goals in the first half, capturing a victory and securing a second-place finish in the Sunset League.
Sasha Grumman scored two goals off penalty corner kicks, as the Sailors improved to 19-5-1, 7-2 in league, with a final game against Westminster today.

Newport Harbor 97, Laguna Beach 71
LAGUNA BEACH -- Newport Harbor won four of five events, including five of eight heats, to win a South Coast League competition.
Bryan Doheny and Chase Ayres each won heats in boys’ shortboard to lead the visitors. Also winning heats were Chase Smith (boys’ longboard), Matt Kretschmar (bodyboard) and Camille Collett (girls’ shortboard).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Sage Hill def. Oxford Academy
NEWPORT BEACH -- With only three Academy League matches remaining, Sage Hill downed Oxford Academy Tuesday, 25-17, 26-24, 25-27.
Senior Cat Dailey recorded 19 kills, and Haywood Wright assisted with nine.
Sage (10-1, 6-1 in league) hosts Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday in its final home league match this season.
