Laguna Junior Challenger tennis event Oct. 23

The Laguna Beach Laguna Beach Junior Challenger Series 2005 will

be held Oct. 23 at Alta Laguna Park.

The event, presented by All Court Tennis, features round-robin

tournament play for junior players ages 10-and-under through

14-and-Under, novice to advanced.

The cost is $25 per player and entry deadline is Wednesday.

Cross-country fundraising event Sunday

The Laguna Beach High cross-country athletic booster club will

host a fundraising event Sunday at the Sandpiper Lounge.

Laguna Beach is the defending Division IV State champion.

The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the lounge, located at 1183

S. Coast Highway.

The Incredible Blues Offenders will be playing at the event, which

includes food catered by La Sirena Grill.

A live auction and raffle also are part of the night’s

festivities.

Admission is $35 per person and can be purchased at the door or by

contacting Michael Gosselin at (949) 497-5304.

Girls’ tennis team moves up in CIF rankings

The Laguna Beach High girls’ tennis team moved up a notch in the

latest CIF-Southern Section Division I rankings, going from fourth to

third.

The Breakers replaced Pacific Coast League rival Corona del Mar at

No. 3.

The Sea Kings dropped two spots to No. 5.

Heading the Division I poll is Calabasas, followed by Peninsula.

Laguna’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams held on to their

spots from the previous week’s Division IV poll.

The boys’ team is ranked second behind Orange Lutheran, and the

girls’ team is fourth behind No. 1 Orange Lutheran, Harvard/Westlake

and Paraclete.

Laguna’s girls’ volleyball team remained at No. 4 in the Division

IV-AA poll. The top four spots remained the same, with the Breakers

ranked behind No. 1 Marymount, Sacred Heart and La Salle.

The boys’ water polo team maintained its No. 10 ranking in the

Division I poll, although the Breakers and Woodbridge tied in the

votes received and share the final spot in the top 10.
