a hands-on cooking class “A Night of Thai Flavors” from 6:30 to 9

Glendale Centre Theatre opens “The Teahouse of the August Moon” at

8 p.m. tonight at the playhouse, 324 N. Orange St., Glendale. Burbank

resident George Strattan directs this comedy about an Army officer

stationed in Okinawa post World War II, who becomes charmed with the

village and a Geisha girl. Performances are 8 p.m. Wednesdays through

Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 19. Tickets range from $16

“Inspired by Nature”: Paintings and Drawings by Botanical Artists”

at the Creative Arts Center in Burbank. There are 67 watercolor,

graphite, oil and colored pencil works in the exhibit created by the

Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California. A reception will be

from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 14 and a $25 lecture/workshop will be from 1 to

4 p.m. Oct. 22. The center is at 1100 W. Clark Ave., Burbank. For

Glendale Centre Theatre presents “The Sword in the Stone” adapted

by Craig Sabin with music by Chris P. Bacon at 11 a.m. Saturdays at

the theater, 324 N. Orange St., Glendale. Erin Villaverde is the

director. Tickets are $12.50 and $10.50 for children 12 and under.

“Tobacco Road,” a play by Jack Kirkland based on the book by

Erskine Caldwell, continues at the Third Stage in Burbank. It’s a

heartbreaking comedy about the American Dream gone terribly wrong.

Performances 8 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 16. It

is directed by Justin Tanner. The theater is at 2811 W. Magnolia

Blvd., Burbank.

A Noise Within is producing Shakespeare’s “Othello” continuing in

repertory until Dec. 8 with William Inge’s “Picnic.” Tickets range

The Troubadour Theater Company presents “Funky Punks in Bright

Ideas” at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 13

combination of vaudeville, slapstick and traditional clowning

featuring music, dance, tricks and flips. Tickets are $12, $10 for

“Duet for One,” a play by Tom Kempinski, is continuing at 8 p.m.

Fridays and Saturdays at the Victory Theatre Center, 3324 W. Victory

Blvd., Burbank. This two-character play examines both the human cost

of suffering and the human power to triumph in spite of an uncertain

future. The final performance is Oct. 22. Tickets are $22 with

ART EXHIBITS

Descanso Gardens’ Boddy House Gallery has works of artists Maryke

Brannin, one-of-a-kind porcelains; Belinda Del Pesco, watercolors;

Nancy Doyle, colored-pencil art as “realistic as photography;” and

Mark Poore, ceramics. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

daily, and is free with gardens admission. The exhibit continues

The artist Koko is showing his paintings at Stephanie’s Art

exhibition is a series of works rekindling his history with classical

The sixth annual Halloween Show featuring a solo exhibition by
